Mission:

Our Neighborhood Watch is a community program in partnership with our local Police Organization. Our purpose is to prevent (by our presence) or detect crime. We do this by:
1. OBSERVATION: Patrolling the neighborhood at least twice daily looking for anything out of the ordinary.
2. REPORTING: Immediately calling 911 if a crime in progress is observed or calling 703-691-2131, County Police Safety, if a crime has been committed but is no longer in progress.
3. DOCUMENTING: Record any descriptive information that may be useful in helping the police investigate the crime. This information should be put in an incident report, a copy of which should be given to your Block Captain who will immediately provide it to the NHW Coordinator.
4. DO NOT ENGAGE anyone in the process of committing a crime that is the job of trained professionals with the authority to do so.

Participation:

A Neighborhood Watch Program is an organized effort by concerned residents of a community to look out for each others safety. To this end we would like to have 100% participation of the residents of our community. We recognize, however, this is not possible for a variety of reasons. We currently have 36 people actively involved in the effort, we would like to double that number. If you can become an active member please contact your block captain or Norman Clary at 703-360-1767 or Julia Romero at 703-799-9628. The Neighborhood would appreciate your involvement. If you cannot become an active member at this time, there are a number of steps you can take as a passive member to help prevent crime.

Some of these are: - Don't have tall shrubbery or bushes close to your house, it gives the criminal a place to hide. - Keep all doors and windows locked - Park your vehicles in your driveway or garage, not on the street, if at all possible, it deters breakins - Keep your car locked at ALL times - Never leave keys in an unattended car NOT even for a short period of time - Keep all your property locked up when not in use, such as generators, bicycles, etc -

This is only a partial list of things you can do to help thwart the criminal. Each home is different, think about what you can do around your house to protect it from criminals. REMEMBER, NEIGHBORS HELP KEEP NEIGHBORHOODS SAFE.

Scheduled Meetings:

Meetings are scheduled the 1st Wednesday of every month at the Wesley Methodist Church, Church Recreation Hall at 6:30 p.m. All block captains are required to attend and any resident of the Mt. Zephyr Community is welcome to attend.
